Characteristic corn planting brings wealth to villagers

Longxikou Village of Dalan Town, Luxi County is welcoming a bumper harvest of characteristic corn. Farmers are busy picking corn.

In the corn field, local farmers are doing livestreaming sales in their spare time, and recommending local characteristic industries, in a bid to help the village collective economy increase income. This year, Longxikou Village conducted preliminary market research and decided to develop the characteristic corn industry. Villagers planted white glutinous corn, fruit corn and multicolored glutinous corn according to local conditions to develop and strengthen the village’s collective economy.

At the same time, small arch sheds were used for seedling cultivation, organic fertilizers were applied, and workers were hired to weed the field to ensure the production of green products. Corn is planted in high mountains in the village, with sufficient sunlight endowing it with a sweet taste.

Since the beginning of this year, the collective characteristic corn industry base in Longxikou Village has employed workers for a total of 436 hours, with over 80% of the workers from poverty-stricken households, providing a working income of over 40,000 yuan. “The planting area of the corn base reaches 160 mu (about 10.67 hectares), with an average yield of about 1,000 ears of corn per mu (about 0.067 hectares) and a total yield of over 100,000 ears of corn. Currently, there are 1,500 orders placed offline and 1,000 orders on e-commerce platforms. At the same time, many people come to the base to pick corn every day.

Next, “we will continue to strengthen the collective economy industry, further expand marketing channels, and better drive farmers to increase income,” said Li Shuwu, village secretary, who is full of confidence in the cultivation of characteristic corn.

Longxikou Village has worked to boost the village collective economy and help farmers increase income by developing characteristic corn and other collective economic industries, creating a green engine for industrial revitalization.
